Cyber bullying has become a significant issue for young people as they interact increasingly through social media. Yet the legal status of cyberbullying is unclear and there is little empirical evidence on which policy makers can draw to inform the management of cyberbullying in Australia.
Principals and teachers are being recruited to complete a short 20 minute online survey to canvass views on the desirability of whether to create a new, separate cyber-bullying offence; the potential impact of such a new, simplified criminal offence and/or civil enforcement regime and how such an offence or regime could be implemented, in conjunction with the existing criminal offences, to have the greatest material deterrence effect.
