The federal government’s positive report card from the COAG Reform Council is cause for celebration and congratulation of the skills and commitment of Australia’s teachers and school employees” said Independent Education Union Federal Secretary Chris Watt.
“The federal government’s commitment of additional resources to Australian education, in particular the Literacy and Numeracy National Partnership, needs to be duly recognized and the government’s commitment to education is unquestioned.”
“But the real thanks must go to the schools themselves.”
“Nevertheless, we recognize that there is still much more to be done in respect of closing the gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.”
“Our members unquestionably recognize that their students aren’t just numbers as they strive to educate each child to fulfill their potential and their day in day out commitment to every individual is inspiring.”
“The IEU believes that there is still considerable room for improvement on the government’s report card and remains hopeful that the government will listen more attentively to those teachers in classrooms who have delivered the goods to date.”
