”Teachers and support staff in non-government schools will welcome Kevin Rudd’s strong and clear recommitment to the values of a fair go if Labor is elected in 2007” said Lynne Rolley, Federal Secretary of the Independent Education Union of Australia.

“It is good to hear a political leader making confident and positive statements about the values which the Australian community believes are important and would like their children to learn – these are a fair go in the workplace; a just and tolerant society; strong community relationships; a commitment to social justice and civil rights and importantly the critical role which education plays in ensuring equity and opportunity. It is uplifting to hear these statements’ she said.

“They stand in contrast to the negative and divisive culture which the Howard government has imposed on the Australian community. Much of this negativity has been focused on schools and the teaching profession” said Ms Rolley.

“The IEUA believes the education community will be inspired and encouraged by Kevin Rudd’s strong statement on an ethical Australia.”
