“The development and trial of a National School Improvement Framework over the next two years should ensure genuine dialogue with teachers and their unions”, said Independent Education Union Federal Secretary Chris Watt.
“The federal government’s commitment to a two year development process is welcomed and their acknowledgement of the unique settings and challenges facing different schools is important.”
The Minister’s announcement today indicated that the federal government would work with school authorities to develop the framework next year.
“Teachers already assess, review and plan for improvement in their classrooms on a daily basis.
“Indeed, teachers have considerable expertise in this work and their knowledge and commitment must be engaged by ‘school authorities’ and the federal government.
“What will be critical is the resourcing and support to encourage and facilitate whole of school improvement and development.
“The Framework, if it is to be professionally sound, must recognize and work with all schools irrespective of where they are in the development and improvement cycle.
“A respectful dialogue with teachers as to how to best implement the National School Improvement Framework will be central to its success.”
