“The inaugural IEU National Conference will debate union policy on a Quality Teaching Framework as part of our members’ commitment to the achievement of high education outcomes for Australia’s children and young people ,” said Independent Education Union Federal Secretary Chris Watt.
“Too much debate has centred on punishment and reward.”
“Governments, and indeed oppositions, continue to ignore or fail to resource the fundamental elements of teacher development to improve the quality of learning for Australia’s school students.”
“Teachers know and researchers provide the evidence that what is fundamental is quality induction, quality mentoring and quality professional learning.”
“What teachers also know is that these elements have never been adequately resourced and no increased activity in “weighing the pig” is going to increase its weight.”
“It is capacity building rather than increased accountability that is more likely to lead to outstanding practice. ”
“Strategies that do not develop increased capacity are destined to fail,” said Mr Watt.
