“The most glaring problem with the MySchool website is that it doesn’t fundamentally assist parents, teachers or school administrators” said Independent Education Union of Australia Federal Secretary Chris Watt.
“The IEUA has no difficulty with the Deputy Prime Minister’s announcement that the website will be expanded, indeed, the data available to parents needs to be better quality and richer.
“But the current website needs a radical overhaul.
“ACARA has delivered a static model. It shows only one point in time.
“There is an urgent need to re-conceptualise the structure to reflect the fact that activity in schools, in student learning, is not static but continually changing and developing. It simply can not be reasonably represented by a single score.
The IEUA supports the rights of parents to know. The IEUA supports transparency and accountability.
“For goodness sake though, let’s make sure that the website is befitting those who wish to engage actively and productively in the work of schools and their teachers.” said Chris Watt.
“Stakeholders like the teacher unions must be included in genuine dialogue about future development of the website and the protocols surrounding the new elements.
