“The COAG meeting on Wednesday needs to commit to fund the Gonski Report recommendations and all governments, federal , state and territory, must commit their share” said Independent Education Union Federal Secretary Chris Watt
“The IEU has supported the architecture proposed by the Gonski Review and in particular notes that an additional investment of over $6 billion to support the implementation of the recommendations has been welcomed by teachers in Catholic and independent schools.”
“But it is now time for governments to get moving and ensure that the resources are committed and that the draft legislation is made available for consultation.”
“There are plenty of outstanding issues still to be resolved but we need certaintythat there is a political will to commit the dollars and a conversation about how the model can be phased-in.”
“Only with the financial commitment can we begin to see how the model could be implemented.”
“All schools will benefit from the additional funding recommended and all sectors of education have welcomed the emphasis on improving outcomes in our most disadvantaged schools,” he said.
“The upcoming COAG meeting must show courageous leadership in delivering for Australian students, their families and their school communities,” said Chris Watt
