The Independent Education Union has confirmed that it will renew its affiliation with the Australian Council of Trade Unions following positive conversations between senior officers over recent months.

The IEU Federal Secretary, Mr Chris Watt said the IEU is pleased that the exchange of letters and agreed understanding reached reflects the capacity of the peak body to support fair and just funding for all Australian schools and proper representation of all teachers and school staff.

“Our membership is made up of hard working teachers and other school staff whose daily concern is providing a decent education for our sons and daughters.

“The membership of the IEU will welcome the commitment from the peak union body.

“We believe that all schools should be given fair and adequate funding to ensure that they have the certainty they need to continue to provide a good quality of education.

“All parents have the right to choose where they send their teachers and it is the role of the Australian Government to primarily fund non-government schools, and the role of state and territory governments to primarily fund government schools,” Mr Watt said.
