Human Rights & Equity

The IEU has a long history of activism around issues which affect not just industrial and professional rights of our members but also the legal, political and human rights which prevail in any democratic and civil society.

Our Union joins with other trade unions to use our collective power to fight for the civil and human rights of women, children, indigenous and ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged and marginalised groups.

The IEU proudly supports the work of our national and international affiliated organistaions committed to a fairer society both in Australia and overseas.

Our union rules set out our collective commitment to human rights and social justice in the Objects (s5) of the IEUA:

  • To promote, determine, fund and take action on issues of concern and social justice, both within Australia and internationally.
  • To ensure that its members enjoy the same civil rights, human rights and rights to freedom from discrimination as are enjoyed by other citizens
