Productivity Commission Report Marks Time for Early Childhood Education

Independent Education Union members across Australia have been let down by the long awaited release of the Productivity Commission’s Report into Childcare and Early Learning” said Chris Watt, Federal Secretary Independent Education Union of Australia.

The Report represents the largest review into Early Childhood Education since the 1990s, yet it provides recommendations which simply mark time for early childhood educators, service providers, parents and children.”.

The Federal Government tasked the Productivity Commission to provide recommendations which wouldn’t require further funding and because of this, what we see in the report is a simple re-arrangement of the deck chairs on the Titanic”.

The report fails to address the most significant issue in early childhood education; which is to provide sufficient funds to recruit and retain early childhood educators”
