Proposed Coalition Education Cuts Disgraceful

“There are significant challenges facing our country and our economy that can only be met through well-funded education programs” said Independent Education Union of Australia Federal Secretary Chris Watt.

“It is an outrage that 2 days before the federal election the Coalition reveals its intention to strip $330 million from a program aimed at lifting education outcomes in some of the poorest schools in the country .

This is part of a proposal to cut a further $1.5 billion from the federal education budget which is on top of more than $3 billion of other cuts to education programs that the Coalition has previously announced.

“Schools in low socio-economic areas need additional resources not cuts.

“It is a disgrace to remove support from the very communities that most require it.

“Opportunities for a vibrant 21st century education in Australia are at huge risk under the policy proposals of the Coalition, said Mr Watt.
