Gillard guarantee
protects jobs Thousands of classroom jobs will be protected by
the federal government’s move to extend non-government school funding, the Independent
Education Union of Australia says. The IEUA is praising Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s
commitment to extend funding for non-government schools, saying it will ease
the fears of millions of Australians – parents, teachers and support staff. “The IEUA welcomes the commitment made by Prime
Minister Gillard,” IEUA federal secretary Chris Watt says. “The Prime Minister recognises that guaranteeing
the indexation of funding is critical for the sector and to the quality of
education in our country. “The non-government sector now educates over 43% of
secondary school students and is a vital part of the Australian education
landscape. “”The commitment by the Prime Minister will ease
the fears of millions of Australians who work in or have their children taught
in almost 3000 non-government schools. Contact: Chris Watt Federal
