Education International condemns the Howard government's NT intervention

Education International represents 30 million teachers and other education workers through its 348 affilates in 169 countries. In July 2007, EI held its 5th World Congress in Berlin with over 1600 participants attending. The Australian delegation (IEU, AEU, and NTEU) jointly moved and seconded an urgent resolution to the Congress opposing the Howard government's sending of troops into the NT without consulting with or the consent of the traditional owners. In doing so, the government undermined the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 and the Racial Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
